National value chain study to inform prioritisation of promising sub-sectors for competitiveness improvement and market access strategies based on review of international case studies in India, Kenya, Australia and the United Kingdom, a global competitiveness and comparative benchmarking analysis of South African industries, as well as interviews with key industry leaders and government-labour industry stakeholders and associations, and multi-national companies. A number of policy, regulatory and project recommendations to enhance the competitiveness and growth of South Africa’s food processing industry were made to the Department of Trade and Industry.
