Impact Economix was appointed by the Benguela Current Convention to provide a thematic report on the socio-economics of ocean industries in the three member countries (Angola, Namibia, and South Africa).
The purpose of the socio-economics thematic report was to inform the BCC’s formulation of its Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis for 2020-2025 by undertaking the following (based on a survey of 22 public and private sector role-players, 15 key informant interviews, as well as desk-top research):
1. Providing a socio-economic baseline and key trends for key indicators relevant to the fisheries and coastal mariculture, offshore oil and gas, coastal mining, and marine industries (port services and marine safety, ship repair, boat and yacht building) (and smaller ocean industries such as desalination, coastal renewable energy, seaweed, marine biotechnology etc.);
2. Providing an overview of the BCC Parties national development plans and strategic initiatives relevant to the ocean / blue economy industries and infrastructure.
